One-part Thor, one-part Twilight, and one-part Tron?
Never judge a movie by the sound of its title. Â I hear the words 'Snow White' and I'm immediately thinking about my monthly trip to Disneyland with my children. Â This movie trailer by far has been the biggest surprise for a movie releasing this year outside of the upcoming Disney 'John Carter' flick. Â I underestimated the star power associated with this June 1st release. Â I'm a little worried though that Thor's Chris Hemsworth might have more success with this film than 'The Avengers' this summer, especially since the trailer doesn't look too shabby.
Not too far into the trailer and you've got quite possibly the most visually stunning "mirror, mirror, on the wall" visual design I've ever seen. Â Wow.
It's as if the NBC, ABC, and Universal are all on a Brothers Grimm trip trying to outdo each other. Â NBC's been pushing it's new television show Grimm down our throats, but each episode seems just be below expectations. Â It's far from terrible though. Â ABC and some of its 'Lost' writers have also released their own fairy tale approach with 'Once Upon A Time'. Â A show that has some really great writing, but with a couple of key casting choices that translate into poor performances. Â Universal's 'Snow White and the Huntsman' on the other hand seems to be a visual feast with a Kristen Stewart to please the Twi-hards, but some action to allow their boyfriends to be interested. Pirates 4's Ian McShane is also part of the cast, which coupled with Chris Hemsworth, you've got two very capable actors.
Who did I not mention? Â Oh, then there's the Academy Award winning kickass fine chick Charlize Theron on hand, not only to narrate, but prove to be the best looking evil queen I've ever seen. Â Poison apple? Yes please. Her vocal narration seems to sound spot on with Cate Blanchett's performance in the 'Lord of the Rings' narrations. Â Not a bad approach and it certainly sounds awesome in the trailer. Â On the flip side, I've not heard a single line in the trailer from Kristen Stewart, which probably is a good thing since I'm really not impressed with her work in the Twilight films.
The visuals are wicked awesome. The trailer music seems to be pushing a little electronica. Â It's very Tron-esque as a matter of fact. Â It isn't Daft Punk handling the soundtrack, but fear not, James Newton Howard is charged with the accompanying kick ass music. Â For those of you who don't know, James Newton Howard collaborated with Hans Zimmer on the Nolan Batman films for some really unforgettable tracks.
That's all I've got. Â Magnumb out!
