June 1st, 2011. DC comics announced that it will cease  all current and ongoing series in the DC universe in late August and bring about a relaunch with 52, yes, FIFTY-TWO new #1 comicbook issues. I mean I'm talking about a new Green Lantern, a new Superman, a new Wonder Woman, a new Justice League and etc. Basically it's what we've been reading is old news and somewhat inaccurate and what the NEW FIFTY-TWO is going to be what we should have been reading in the first place? What does this mean and what took so long?

Obviously, the comicbook business isn't what it used to be. Most people these days aren't rushing to comicbook stores when new issues come out. With the internet and it's limitless sources of piracy and file sharing, one isn't too inclined to enter a comic book store wanting the fresh new comic book. It's more of a casual and nostalgic thing to step into a comicbook store. Many describe this move as a gamble and followed by saying that DC has to market this right or all could be lost.

The one thing that Marvel has had on DC is that their whole staff had one vision. Marvel had one vision of the Marvel Universe, Marvel Multiverse, and how the Marvel characters interacted with one another. There weren't any questions like, "wait, why is he here and not there? how does this make sense?".

With DC, they have so many writers that write for their respected characters. They write for their own characters stories. Not to mention the many sub-comicbook companies that DC has the rights too. As compared to Marvels vision, DC's has been a bit scattered. A bit of this and that and lets hope it works. The average fan seeks questions on how Wonder Woman's beloved Themescara can congruently function in today's world. Or how Allan Scott, (the first to bear the title of "Green Lantern") wasn't involved with the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians of Oa? Or how Tomar Re, of the Green Lantern Corps, section 2813 wasn't able to know and save the birth planet of Superman, Krypton? Instead of answering these questions and filling in these gaps LATER, DC will take the daunting task of relaunching and starting from scratch.

Finally, the members of the Justice League will come to realize the the existence of one another. Green Lantern will come to realize that Batman is not a myth, he will realize that he is indeed the Dark Knight of Gotham.  Superman will realize that there is more than his home, Metropolis. We get fresh stories and reboots to more obscure characters in the DCU. We get to know where everyone is from and their origin stories. We get introduced to a newly formed universe. Were getting 52 new issues and different stories. We will finally know who and how he or she came about. No more random pop ups. No more random new characters who were just brought in to fill the story.  Were getting that one vision in the DC universe!

But is it too late?
