DC To Publish “Before Watchmen” Comic Book Series

DC comics has announced: this Summer, they will publish prequels to the comic epic, Watchmen, the 12-issue comic book industry changing series written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. There will be seven interlocking and inter-connected miniseries – each focusing on a specific character from The Watchmen.

Alan Moore will not be involved with the project, but Dave Gibbons has noted that their original series was “the complete story that Alan Moore and I wanted to tell. However, I appreciate DC’s reasons for this initiative and the wish of the artists and writers involved to pay tribute to our work.”

Dan DiDio and Jim Lee will be spearheading this project and had the following to say:

“It’s our responsibility as publishers to find new ways to keep all of our characters relevant,” DC Entertainment co-publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee said in a statement. “After 25 years, the Watchmen are classic characters whose time has come for new stories to be told. We sought out the best writers and artists in the industry to build on the complex mythology of the original.”

All prequel Watchmen books will feature “Before Watchman” banners. Big news by DC as they try to keep the ball rolling with the success of the New 52 initiative.
