Top 5 Villians You Will Never See

Salutations, bored web-browser. For my first article for GameFob.com, I wanted to do a piece in regard to a discussion I’ve had countless times with fellow comic book fans, the top 5 villains you will never see in the “live-action comic book movie world”. These are the villains which the production companies have either have had ample enough opportunity to do or they’re just a fraction or so unappreciated to the point that they’ll never even be considered for the Big Screen.

 5) Ultron

It may be a little presumptuous to assume that we’ll never see the most deadly android within the Marvel world; the first Avengers film has yet to be released (which I’m quite certain will get a sequel if the box office numbers permit). However, I still don’t believe we’ll see the android menace onscreen — and my reasoning is sound — because to have Ultron appear in a movie, we must first write in Henry Pym (Ant Man) as one of the leading protagonists…and let’s be perfectly honest. We barely tolerate him in the comics; not seeing him in theatres won’t be a great loss.

4) Deathstroke (aka Slade)

*Sigh*… Is almost all I can say. Deathstroke is actually one of my personal favorite villains in the DC world. He’s a villain who’s as tactical and skilled as Batman, but as blood thirsty and cruel as Deadshot. How perfect would he be on the big screen?! Sadly, his curse is the fact that his main heroes are the Teen Titans, a movie that will most likely never see the light of day.

“But, Bell,” you say, “I’ve heard rumors that WB signed on Akiva Goldsman and Mark Verheiden to write the Live Action Teen Titans, we may actually see the movie if we just wait a little longer.” And I say “Aww… you’re so cute, with your little hopes.”

Here is the difference between when you hear about a Marvel movie coming out and a DC movie: Marvel actually does them. Still waiting on that Wonder Woman movie.

3) Clayface

The obstacle that keeps Clayface from the big screen is incidentally the man that has made one of the greatest comic book movies ever, Christopher Nolan. Whom I can say has created a perfect movie world for Batman. Unfortunately, this gritty realistic world has limited the list of villains that can be used, and there is no real way of making Clayface more realistic without gutting every unique aspect of the character. Even if the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, is the last Batman movie Nolan will be involved in, it’s hard to believe Warner Bros. would go a different way in theme for the next couple of bat-flicks. Believe me, the franchise will continue whether Nolan is a part of it or not, just wait and see.

The truth is the only movie world that Clayface can be in is the Schumacher Batman world…. And that soul stabbing feeling you just had right now after reading his name is also the reason we will not see Clayface in the movies. Somehow I’m content with that.

2) Darkseid

One of the most powerful, brutal, brilliant and omnipotent villains to ever grace the DC world, and if you’re like me, your first introduction to this villain was in the Superman animated series voiced by Michael Ironside –  a man whose voice not only makes you feel less masculine upon hearing it, but also showed how dangerous the character was.

Not to say that I’m not excited about seeing Zod again on the Big Screen. But come on, Warner Brothers… we’ve done Zod, and we’ve actually done him right. If you’re going to reuse a villain, how about the ones you’ve screwed up on: The Riddler, Poison Ivy….Mr. Freeze… etc.

All I’m saying is Superman needs a villain that is not only superior in strength but also in presence. The people of earth view Superman as an ideal, some even worship him as if he were godlike.  That’s not the case for Darkseid; He is God to his people, and he kicks other gods asses before lunch.

Sadly, Darkseid’s time will never come. It’s not because he’s so unappreciated; it’s because the ones in charge of writing a Superman script will never do it. If you think I’m being too harsh, take a look at the list of Superman movie villains we’ve seen since the franchise started in the 1970’s.

  1. Lex Luthor
  2. Zod
  3. Lex Luthor with special guest Richard Pryor
  4. Lex Luthor with Nuclear Man (Whom was voiced by Lex Luthor)
  5. And Lex Luthor with a mountain of Kryptonite… Nuff Said.

1) Sentinel

Every single X-Men fan dies a little inside when they hear these words. They have made FIVE X-Men movies and I have not seen one Sentinel (and no, we are not counting the first 5 minutes of X-Men: The Last Stand… and if you think that satisfied you, continue reading your Stephanie Meyers book and try to raise your standards.)

No matter how you were introduced to the X-Men before the movies — whether it was in the cartoons, the comics, or the variety of horrible games that have come out over the years — the main obstacles for the X-Men were the Sentinels, second only to Magneto. Now, there is a possibility we might see them in the sequel to X-Men: First Class or X-Men 4, but I’ll be honest with you — I’m tired of waiting. I’ve truly given up hope.

All I want is to see Hugh Jackman running through the destroyed streets of Westchester with a monstrously loud mechanical voice catching up shouting “HALT MUTANT.” Is that too much to ask?

Hopefully you enjoyed reading this article as much as I enjoyed writing it. Until Next Time.

It really is pathetic they’ve made five Superman movies and used the same villain four times.

Darkseid could bring the franchise to a whole new level. Especially, today with the tools available to the movie makers.

    Aw well.
