DC: The New 52! What do you think?
The New 52 came with a flurry of both positive and negative reports. Weeks ago, I gave a review on the Justice League #1. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, I’ve been on my own quest of trying to purchase ALL of the 52 and I tell you, it’s been very enjoyable. More enjoyable than actually reading them!
What I will say though is that not all of them are good. What is good is that were getting re-introduced to some old forgotten characters like, Aquaman, Deadman, Mr. Terrific, OMAC, Captain Atom, etc and it’s awesome. There’s finally a nice little back story that makes sense and not at all corny of the many unsung heroes!
However, when we look on the Batman and Superman comics (Batman & Robin, The Dark Knight, Detective Comics, Action Comics, etc) We don’t want to see anything change at all. I’ve actually gotten to read all of the Batman comics and I’ve enjoyed them! They don’t restart anything about Batman. They just have them set in different parts of his life and really picked up where they left off in the ‘continuity of Batman’. Now, I cannot say the same for Superman! I’ve felt that Superman’s comics were a bit boring… and I still do.
What I did enjoy the most was Catwoman, Wonder Woman, and Batgirl. The diva’s stole my heart. The three are so powerful and start off fast! Selena Kyle’s home is blown up, Wonder Woman has to butcher some oddly shaped Centaurs(And will to have to fight a very modern Ares in the near future!) and Barbara Gorden is already shot down by the Joker! The woman of DC in the New 52 have stole my heart and my attention span! I’m definitely going to be keeping up them!
What’s new and fascination are the dark comics of the New 52! I haven’t really broken ground on all of them, but man are they really intense! They’re like horror books and I love it! Their nasty, dark, sadistic, and insane! I’m really starting to get into, “I, Vampire”. It’s an in your face comic. It’s like True-Blood meets DCU. Now, I don’t know if we’ll be seeing Sookie and Vampire Bill in the near future, but hey? DC is known for buying other comic vendors. So we’ll see.
WHAT I DON’T LIKE is Static Shock. That should explain itself. I loved Black Lightening. They should have given him more! Static Shock? Man…. GTFO Virgil.
Well friends, hopefully I’m able to finish collecting all of these comics and then I’ll be ready for when the 2nd issues hit the shelves to give you more in depth reviews!
